Here is a wonderful picture of German artist Helga Hornung working in her atelier. You can see her technique of moving and manipulating the paint with her hand. Jesse Reno does the same thing in the background of his works. They both then use a black outline to add further layering to their paintings. Two gifted artists, same unusual technique. Helga's works have a universal appeal and her books (" The Little Lalu" series) are popular with normal, as well as challenged children. I love seeing works in progress and learn so much from these in studio photos.

ReplyDeleteI met Helga Hornung four years ago in Munich and fell instantly in love with her pictures and her colorful and positive style. Everything she paints has a powerful radiation of harmony and empathy. She is not as known in Germany as she deserves, because today our culture is mostly happening in the head, not in the heart and in the rest of the body. But this is exactly what she does: she appeals to wholeness, not just to some academic intellect. If one is open, one senses her message very clearly.

I am delighted to have this link to Helga's studio and I hope my readers will check it out. Thank you so much for providing it to us. If anyone owes a small child a gift this season, I would strongly recommend one of Helga's children's books. They are understandable in any language and promote discussion between parent and child.
